In a domestic environment availability is less of a concern so you are probably better not mirroring, but instead backing up or syncing one disk to the other overnight....
Hope this will be completed with whatever result. Have a read of the article I linked to. That night, I got the email message about SMART detecting increased reallocated sector count. Also, if you hadn't seen the ATA error message until recently, then that is also a bad sign.
